belated!

And I'm back!

I'm currently procrastinating and decided to blog again like I said I would!

Before I get any further, I'd like to wish my sister Peejay a BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope you were really surprised at the party, otherwise you're getting better at acting/lying! Haha! (*uhhh uhh... MOVIES!* HAHA!)

My sister's birthday always falls on Thanksgiving and we never really get to celebrate it. So this year, it actually fell on a Saturday! Woohoo! With very last minute planning and invites, my other sister Pam and my cousin Aimee were able to conjure up a surprise party in her honor. Now I've always talked about trying to bake a cake from scratch and wanting to use fondant so I volunteered myself to bake the cake for the party. At the time it was a great idea! Little did I know I would get deathly ill on that day! With a huge headache and lack of sleep, I snuck out of the house early and went to my best friend's house to bake the cake. Boy, it was a lot of fun making that cake....YEAH RIGHT! My eyes were so watery and I just kept sneezing everywhere! Good thing I brought along with me a bunch of masks and gloves. I know I work in the health field, but it's really hard to bake with gloves and a mask on. I actually felt like I was performing some type of surgery. Haha.

Anyway, it took me a total of 3 hours to make this cake because I was having trouble with the fondant. The shapes and letters weren't coming out the way I wanted them to and it was just frustrating. I guess I just need to read more about fondant and figure out how Duff from Ace of Cakes does it. He makes it look so darn easy. Haha. Oh! And it's a Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Icing!

WARNING....

The next couple of pictures are laughable. Remember that this is my first time using fondant and have absolutely no creativity/imagination when it comes to decorating. HAHA. I also have to apologize for the quality of the pictures. Most of them were taken on my phone.

Mixing up the batter. I feel like I used a lot of red food coloring cause it was bright red! Haha

While the cake was in the oven, I got started on the fondant. I bought white fondant and made it yellow cause it's Peejay's favorite color. I don't know if you notice it, but those are my gloves on the upper left. Haha!

And here are some of the fondant cutouts I made.

I also made the icing color yellow hoping it would look all fun! That's my best friend's brother helping me smooth out the icing that sort of looked like cheese. Haha.

And the cutouts are on! LOL!! It's not very creative like I said, but it was the best I could do with the condition I was in.

The end product. Candles and all!

I think everyone enjoyed it. I hope! Haha

And that's it for my baking story. I'm actually excited to attempt it again, but I have to wait until this semester is done. I have so much planned for after school is done and I just can't wait to do all those projects! Well I should get back to work. Till next time...
